About

Hello! Welcome to my blog. Without having to swim through all of my disconnected musings that stretch clumsily across my blog, Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter, I tried to capture the basics here in one page. Thanks for visiting!

About Me

My name is Elizabeth James (EJ for short), a 30-something woman living deep in corn field country, USA.

I am originally from Illinois and lived here until age 18 when I moved to California. I lived in and around Los Angeles for about 13 years, then moved to Denver, Colorado in the Summer of 2010. I lived in Denver until December, 2011 when I hopped a plane to Spain and continued the journey abroad. I lived in Kathmandu, Nepal for about 6 weeks while studying to become an ESL teacher. I then found a job as an ESL kindergarten teacher in Haikou, Hainan, China and lived and worked there from Feb 2012 to Feb 2013. I'm now back in Illinois for awhile to live near my family after so many years away and experience all of the fun and shenanigans that comes with hanging out with all of one's nieces and nephews. I plan to make travel a priority and hope to live abroad again to experience other cultures in a way that is a little bit more involved than just scratching the surface. I started this travel map to keep track of the journey...

About This Blog

I started this blog in January 2011 as a way to get the creative juices flowing again. I've kept a written journal sporadically and irregularly (are those the same thing?) over the years but wanted to start blogging again. I've had websites and blogs in the past and found it to be a great motivator for creative writing.

Most recently a lot of posts are about my new experiences living in a new country with a new job learning a new language. My mom tells me she reads my blog, so she's often the audience-in-my-head when I write about these things.

There's no real goal or purpose to this blog, other than to record and share daily thoughts. I love reading blogs of all sorts of people, and I hope sharing some of my thoughts, however boring/weird/funny they may be, will provide some entertainment.

  4. I also read your blogs from time to time - when I'm completely bored :-) I wish I had understood your genius mind when you where in Denver. I guess it's not a total loss...I did keep your 'Beware of the Harmonica Player' mousepad.

  6. Hi, My name is Brenda and I'm creating a course on robotics for teachers. I found your post "Normal Adult Hobbies" for July 25, 2011, and the robot drawing by the little girl. I was so cute. I'm asking for your permission to use that image on my course materials. Please let me know know. I can be reached at bmatthis at lesley dot edu. I'm on sabbatical but will be checking my emails. Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Brenda!
Please feel free to use the robot photos. I do have to admit though, that the drawing was my own...and I admit that I do draw about as well as a little girl :)

I will also email you in case you do not see this. Good luck with your course!
      EJ
