Moonlight Breaking (a lullaby)

Moonlight breaking
on the window
wash away the day

Moonlight watching
gently over
go to sleep sweet baby

And when you dream
of ships on oceans
drifting far away, you see

There's moonlight breaking
on the water
wash away the day

A poetry prompt from NaPoWriMo

  1. EJ, this is incredibly beautiful. Soft, and sweet, and so visual. Gorgeous.

    1. Aw thank you, De! I am teaching ESL at a kindergarten in China, and I've been paying attention to which sounds my little 3-yr-olds respond to the most because at their age it seems like it's more about the sounds and the rhythms, and it seems like they love the SSHHH and WAH sounds, so I wanted to incorporate the word wash and oceans and other words with those sounds. Maybe I'll practice singing this to them when they get all rowdy :) Thank you for your comments :)

  2. That's lovely! There's something very soothing in the idea of washing away the day.
